Chapter 30 And The 2nd Day Summary

(Eli) It’s 10:50 pm, and MCM has gone to sleep. He’s learned a couple of things now, the first of which being that his primary audience wakes up when it’s early in the morning (for him, that is), and that he writes better when he’s just gotten up from bed. So what he’s going to do is simple: sleep early, wake up early, and write for all 24 hours of the last day.

21 chapters to go. The Fear has started.

Let’s do two things now: let’s take a look at the chapter 30, and then let’s take a look at the stats for the whole of today.

Chapter 30 was a slow one. I’m curious as to what government official carries a bible, (or if he’s even a government official – for all I know, he could be Kaso) and if Kani would survive the radiation. Things aren’t looking good for her, but then things aren’t looking good for everyone. Here are the notes for this chapter (and if you notice, they’re pretty much spot on):

MAY 20, 2039 — BOLTON, CANADA
Kani wakes up in the hospital, hooked up to machines. Simon is by her side, gets excited when she’s alert.    He says not to worry, she’s fine, they’re just being careful.

Doctor comes in, needs some time alone with her. Simon leaves, reluctantly.    Doctor says he knows she’s not really Simon’s brother. Says she has a serious problem. Her blood work indicates she’s been exposed to constant low levels of radiation for several hours, and he’s afraid of permanent damage if she doesn’t get proper help.

She claims ignorance, but he’s not buying it. He says he has a daughter the same age, and he knows about rebellious behaviour, but there’s a difference between being your own person, and putting yourself in danger for the wrong reasons.    He says he doesn’t care what she’s done — he’s prohibited from talking about it anyway — all he cares about is that she not die.    She’s young, she has a lot of life left to live. Don’t waste it.

She asks to see Simon, and the doctor relents, let Simon in. Simon is worried about Stacey. Has been seeing it on the news all night… kidnapped, they say.    Does Kani know anything about that?    Kani says no, she doesn’t, but Simon isn’t buying it.

Simon offers to help.    She says it’s too difficult, that she can’t get him involved. He presses, and she explains the mob has Stacey.    She was in to some bad stuff, and they caught her, and now only Kani can save her.    Simon puffs at this… HE can help too.    She says no, but he refuses to listen to reason.

Doctor peeks in again, and Kani tells him she’s fine. She’s FINE.    The doctor says it’s not that.    It’s… he’s really sorry, but someone from the government is here to see her about a kidnapping.

Simon is ushered out, and Mr Andrews comes in, looking severe.

“Hello, Kani. We need to talk.”

QUESTIONS
Something in a hospital room. A girl’s name. A doctor’s name.

It seems good, so far, but there are still a number of question that I’d like answered. I’d want to know more about the political fallout in France (and what Space Tourism’s got to do with all this – seriously?). And why does so much of the economy depend on asteroids? Questions, questions. As for Kani, I’m not very happy with her – she’s probably the only character to seem to be going nowhere at the moment, while Rook is in trouble and Yuri is captured, and the mysterious Ayoub from the very first chapter still nowhere to be seen.

So here’s the stats for Day 2: MCM wrote 14 chapters today, 16 chapters yesterday, and he’s got 21 more chapters to go. He needs to write 17 a day to make it (which he hasn’t, unfortunately) – right now he’s 4 chapters behind the recommended number (34), and he doesn’t yet have time to complete the outline. Or maybe he does – he told me he’s ‘doing some writing’ before he goes to sleep.

So Michael will be waking up at 1.30 am tomorrow, and will be writing 24 straight hours, in an attempt to finish Typhoon. Heaven help him, I’m not sure how that would go.
